This wonderful old freight train carriage has been fully refitted to bring you the best in luxury unique accomodation.
Set in the quiet alpine forests of Queenstown, The Box Car features an outdoor private bath, Smart Projector, internal log fireplace, bespoke furniture and more.
Whether you’re an adventure seeker, or simply wanting a romantic private hideaway, The Box Car brings you all of the above and makes for a truly memorable experience.
Whilst The Box Car is small, the space doesn’t scrimp on the things that matter. Original restored floorboards, designer fittings and 100% cotton sheets amongst other things, will make your stay an unforgettable one.
Your hosts are passionate about building and restoring small spaces including Airstream Caravans and Tiny Homes and we give our guests what we believe is the highest in quality, premium accomodation.
The Box Car is your own private getaway however the driveway and main house (where your hosts live) is visible from your stay. Whilst the Box Car seems close to the main house, we assure you that your privacy is important and we will endeavour to ensure this during your stay.

We have parking onsite for your use and recommend using your own car for getting around. There are no public transport routes available.
If taking a taxi or Uber, please give the address 607A Glenorchy-Queenstown road, Closeburn and present the driver with the same check in instructions given to you.
We have animals on the property including free-roaming chickens. Please make sure not to bring Mila the cat or Alphonse the dog into The Box Car as tempting as that may be!
Please note we don’t provide wood for the indoor fire during the summer months (Nov- Mar) unless on request.

To get to our property, drive 6-7minutes from Queenstown along Glenorchy road. Next, you’ll see GEARY LANE on your left and on the right is a wooden gate. At the Keypad on the right hand side, enter #1#9999 and the gates will open (if required). Go through this gate and up the hill till the second driveway where you will see a yellow sign. Turn right down the drive and you’ll see the edge of the Box Car. You can park next to the boxcar, just near the stairs.
